Travel Information
Visas -
All foreign visitors to Syriarequire a visa.
Tourist visas are valid for 15 days and must be used within one month of the date of issue. Passports should not bear any Israeli stamp and be valid for a minimum of 6 months. For further information and an application form click here.......
Currency - The national currency is the Syrian Pound, divided in 100 piastres. There are coins of 0,5
1,2 ,5,10,25 Syrian Pound and bank notes of 5, 10, 25, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 Syrian Pound. Export of local currency is not allowed.
Banking Hours: 8 a.m to 3.30 p.m. from Sunday till Thursday - closed on Fridays and Saturdays. Exchange is also possible in some 5* hotels.
Credit cards: Visa and American Express are accepted in various hotels and shops. Also tickets can be bought with credit cards.
Electricity: 220 Volts AC, 50 Hz - European-style 2-pin plugs
Clothing: In summer light, cotton cloths are advisable. Sunglasses, a hat and a good pair of walking shoes are recommendable. A woollen jacket for the evenings in the mountains or desert. In winter, winter clothing should be brought as temperatures may reach 0° C!
Health: No special vaccinations are requested.
Drinking water: It is recommended to drink bottled water, certainly outside the large cities.
